About 200,000 pipes were needed for the Nord Stream Pipelines. The completed pipes were transported by rail  to Mukran on the German island of Rügen, and also to Bremen, where a portion of the pipes were transshipped to Kotka, Finland. At those sites, the steel pipes received a concrete coating.
