Cumbia Villera (Slum Cumbia) is a kind of Folk Rap and very popular in Latin American. A couple  years ago I spent a night with the Cumbia band “Los Pibes Chorros” (~small thieves) touring through the suburbs and slums of Buenos Aires. Cumbia bands are forced by their bookers to play 4 or more times per night in different dancehalls, so called “bailantes”. The managment has 2 equipment sets. While the band is playing at one place the other equipment set is beeing build up at the next bailante. After the show the band rushes to the next location. For the band members there is little chance to survive such nights without the help of drugs.
